Set in the teeming heartland of modern London, a group of street smart young hustlers plan the heist of the century, led by Fagin, the Godfather like figure of the group. Featuring an all-star British cast including two-time Academy Award winner Sir Michael Caine as Fagin, it also features Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as Sikes, Rita Ora (50 Shades of Grey) plays Dodge, Franz Drameh (Legends of Tomorrow) as Batesey, Sophie Simnett (Daybreak) as Red and introducing Raff Law, son of actor Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes) in the title role of Twist. Directed by Martin Owen, it also stars David Walliams (After Ever After) and Noel Clarke (Bulletproof). The film is due in Cinemas 29 April 2021.

Twist (Oliver Twist) is all grown up, orphaned and he's learnt to live on and off the streets on his own. Running from security who's out to get him for constantly sleeping in the National Gallery, he runs from the authorities and by chance bumps into Dodge and Batesy, who can't help but notice his obvious parkour skills. They invite him to come back with them to what seems like a rooftop warehouse. He's introduced to their leader Fagin, and having a great interest in art and being a street artist himself, Twist is taken aback by all the original artwork in Fagin's office.

He declines the offer of a hot meal and to join the group of thieves, telling them, he's not a thief. However he is set upon with just the right enticement sent out by Fagin, who had sussed out his needs, in the form of Red. It turns out that Fagin is planning an art heist, to take back what he claims was originally his before he was cheated out of them by his nemesis, Losberne. Fagin claims Losberne took everything from him and he intends to return the favour. Sikes, also a criminal and the only other senior in Fagin's gang, wants in and makes it menacingly obvious to Fagin she is his full partner in the spoils.

Twist is generally a feel-good film for the whole family with the key theme being the value of forming an alternative family in a tough world. Raff Law in the main role narrates at the start of the film and you can't help but hear his father Jude Law speaking to you when you close your eyes. They sound and look much like each other, except for the fact that Raff has yet to bloom to maturity. The film, in general, is very pleasing with great performances from all. It delivers great energy and brings parkour back into the spotlight. It has action, romance and beautiful cinematography and costumes to support it. Following a band of thieves with coppers hot on their heels, it can't be anything else but powerful, exciting, thrilling and with its fair share of twists and turns. Featuring many character filled rooftops of London was a smart move, as in part, it allows the film to maintain the romance and character of the Oliver Twist of old, while bringing it into the modern day. There's not a lot to fault in this lighthearted, thoroughly engaging and enjoyable Twist.
