Twilight (The Twilight Saga) - Book Review

Isabelle Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks where she meets the drop dead gorgeous, mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen. Up until now, Edward and his family have been able to keep their secret and live in Forks peacefully. However, Bella is determined to find out everything there is to know about Edward. What she doesn't know is that the closer she gets to the Cullen's, the more danger she's put her and those she loves in.

I picked up this series sometime right before the world went vampire crazy. I must say that I enjoyed reading most of it. It was the classic girl meets boy, girl falls madly in love with boy and throw in a little angst and you've got most of it right there. Don't get me wrong I love the classics; you can't go wrong with classics. But somehow during the cliché of Edward and Bella fighting their attraction, Meyer just had to throw in 'sparkling vampires', I mean really? How Bella didn't crack up laughing when that piece of information was shared is beyond me.

Meyer has a really simple writing style and she writes everything in first person that lead me straight into Bella's mind experiencing it first hand which usually is fantastic to be that engrossed in the main character's mind. However, Meyer had the tendency to over explain - i.e Bella's breakfast cereal - I really didn't need to know about her breakfast unless it turns her into a vampire. Some of Bella's inner rambling went for way too long that it lost it's effect on me.

With all that said, she did paint a fantastic picture of Edward with his golden amber eyes, porcelain skin, the gracefulness in which he moved and how protective he was of Bella. There she hit her young market exceptionally well. I however am still a little sketchy on how well the second book of this series is going to be after finishing this first one.
