The moon, the stars, the water - a brand new running event
Spring is definitely in the air. As we welcome the warmer weather, it is almost time to bid farewell to the official running season, in Queensland at least. But don't pack away those trainers just yet. A brand new event has been added to the running calendar.
A "sister" event to the popular Twilight Run, St Lucia, has recently been announced. The draw card for this inaugural event is that it will be held along the picturesque waterfront in Wynnum. The program for the Twilight Bay Run is very similar to the St Lucia event. It should appeal to previous Twilight participants whilst at the same time attracting some newbies too. The lure of the bay in exchange for the city may be enough to entice some fresh faces.
Wynnum boasts wide, flat roads so it is a great opportunity to improve your PB or just enjoy a run on a flat, fast course. The moon, the stars and the shimmering water will provide the perfect backdrop.
The event offers a half marathon, 10km run, 5km run/walk and a 1km active kids run. The half marathon and 10km run will be the last major events for the year. The 1km active kids run is a fabulous way to introduce children to the fun in running. Parents/guardians may run alongside the children. This can help alleviate any race jitters. Be sure to have the cameras ready as they cross that finish line to capture their little faces bursting with pride.
An extra challenge has been thrown into this event. "Do the Double" is a prize for the most improved runner at the same distance. You would need to run in the same distance event in March 2012 and September 2012 to be eligible. Have you improved over the past six months? This is a great way to find out.
In the past, the Twilight Run at St Lucia has always been family friendly with activities and games for the kids. The Wynnum event is expected to attract the same sociable atmosphere. Entertainment for the kids commences at 4.00pm and a live band begins at 6.40pm.
Intraining Running Centre manage this event. With over 1500 entries already registered it seems set to be a successful evening.
Make all that training worthwhile, enter a race and finish the year on a "runner's high." If you are just waking from your winter hibernation this could be the kickstart your fitness regime needs.
The course is a 5km loop. Not only is it flat and fast but also provides ample viewing points for family, friends and spectators. Online entries close 20th September 2012. Entry fees are dependent upon your date of registration and chosen event.
Beautiful scenery, great atmosphere and a chance to work out - what more could you want for a Saturday evening? Pack the picnic, lace up the trainers and enjoy a night under the stars.
