Occasionally you stumble on a place that just makes you smile. Not just the corners of your mouth but an all over warm feeling of contentedness that brightens your day. And that's exactly what happened the day I ventured through the Sunshine Coast Hinterland town of Cooroy. Less than 2 hours from Brisbane and 30 minutes from Noosa awaits a delight for the senses, better known as Twig & Grace.
Primarily an artistic floristry, Twig & Grace specialise in fresh stylish contemporary and traditional arrangements with emphasis on colour and incorporating use of texture. The attention to detail and personalised service is why they are so popular for boutique weddings.
But it's not all about the bride. From the entrance you know that you've stumbled upon something special by the interesting array of wares stacked on the footpath. Baskets, buntings and colourful tea towel flap in the breeze. A vintage suitcase sitting on an old wooden chair overflows with old biscuit tins and trinkets.
Take a peek inside and you'll be totally blown away by the amazing collection of homewares, decorations and flowers. Fossic through the handcrafted crocheted brooches, hairclips, necklaces and pendants. Feathers, leather, shells and glass jars - the more you look the more you find. Balls of string, handmade cards, wooden cut out letters in retro prints declaring I (loveheart) you, some spotted fluffy feathers encased in a glass bubble captivate the imagination and a gorgeous felt bird mobile steals yet another moment of my mind.
Time stands still as I uncover one treasure after another. It is then that I realise that it only gets better. Coffee... be still my beating heart! A "Rare Cargo" blend by Signature Roasters, also from the Sunshine Coast, is artistically transformed into the ultimate flat white and teamed with a generous piece of "Nanna" slice (aka. caramel slice) and I slip off into another dimension.
Feeling slightly Alice in Wonderland-ish, I venture into the courtyard to be immersed in yet another display of creative talent and artistic license let loose in the high fenced garden.
Old world cottage garden flowers interspersed with modern tufts of purple grasses and old lanterns mingle with pots of succulents and old stain glass windows.
Splashes of red furniture only ignite my senses further. To say I'm having a a wonderful time would be an understatement. But sadly for me there are no magic potions or white rabbits and too soon my escape is over and it's time to return to reality.
And just like in a dream, it is often the little things that leave an impression. After a visit to Twig & Grace your mind will be blissfully happy with a sensory overload that is sure to put a smile on your face with memories of all the intricate details still drifting through your thoughts long after you leave.
