A homely, intimate and social cafe situated in a nursery and yoga centre at Surry Hills. Welcome to Twig Cafe at Garden Life. It is easy to feel welcome at this little sanctuary of great teas and handmade treats. If you love nature, and you're the homely laid back type, you will really love this cafe oasis of charm, despite that is can be quite a busy place to hang out on a late Saturday morning. The whole plethora of inner city Sydneysiders come out here: young families, couples and people who just want to Twig it alone. However in saying this, you don't have to necessarily be living in the Surry Hills area. Anywhere in the inner suburbs of Sydney is fine. Thank you to the Francis family for this paradise, and for coffee lovers, Single Origin Roasters coffee is served here.
Wooden tables, stools and pillows. Every table is decorated in a garden like theme with flowers and a white spout that actually has water in it. It is a clever design. You're handed a glass of water to enjoy, and the white porcelain spout is used for any top ups. Whether you sit inside or out, it can easily feel like you're in someone's backyard. Even when you use the restroom facilities, the larger than life plants blossom with an aromatherapy scent. That with an extensive wine list, and you're in heaven.
Once amongst the garden like theme and stunning decor - it is time to order some lovely homemade treats. The Marco Polo Iced Tea ($5) of which is a Marriage Freres signature blend was delicious, cool and refreshing. The serving size was just right. This tea could have done with slightly less ice, otherwise I devoured the fruity flavour with the chunk of real live berries that were too good to not eat.
The handmade toasted date and walnut brioche with honey and ricotta cheese
The tea nicely complimented the handmade toasted date and walnut brioche with honey and ricotta cheese ($9), making way for a different and pleasing morning tea experience. The ricotta cheese and honey serving size was just right. The figs had a hint of spice and sugar. Just amazing. Chop up small bites at a time, devour each mouthful and this dish will last a little longer in your space at this establishment. Even though Twig Cafe is rather smallish, it felt like some privacy was enjoyed at my own table, in my own space. A simple treat where all good things come to an end.
My bill arrived in the cutest china dish I have ever seen in a cafe. Normally the bill plates are those tacky silver ones in comparison. Not at Twig Cafe at Garden Life. A stylish floral dish in adding the finishing touches. Polite staff. Great food. Terrific service with a creative garden like decor. As Oliver Twist used to say "please sir, can I have some more." You might be that Oliver Twist, especially with that amazing signature dish - brioche.
