Spend Valentines Day cryingfrom laughter
You forgot it's Valentine's day today and your partner forgot their hand on your cheek at high speed. Or maybe you didn't forget, but you want to act like you don't care because what is Valentine's day anyway? If neither of the above apply, you didn't forget and you're scrambling last minute to find a thoughtful gift because flowers and chocolate are so high school.

In that case, I've got the thing for you. You can spend your Valentine's with Shakespeare under the stars. The Australian Shakespeare Company has set up under the stars at the Botanic Gardens to bring you one of my personal favourite of Shakespeare's works - Twelfth Night.

Valentines day in melbourne
Twelfth Night at the Gardens

With a story line that's guaranteed to throw your head into a spin, Twelfth Night is a witty comedy in that only-Shakespeare-could-pull-this-off kind of way. It will make any love triangle you've ever heard of sound like...a joke.

I'm super jealous of anyone who has never watched Twelfth Night, who gets to experience it for the first time.

Go there early and enjoy some ice cream before the show. I would suggest bringing a thick blanket and bean bags to get really comfortable. Don't forget snacks - carry your favourite snacks with you, or bring a picnic basket and have a late-late picnic.

Twelfth Night is funny, it's witty and will have you gasping for air in between laughs - it will also completely get you off the hook, because: what's more romantic than Shakespeare on Valentine's day, under the stars? And the crowd collectively said: NOTHING.
