The is a Tweed Shire Council community facility established in 2004. It operates across three locations, Murwillumbah, Uki and Tweed Heads in association with these three local Historical Societies.

In August 2015, the reopened after major redevelopment that took several years. It is the home of the Murwillumbah Historical Society .

The museum is easy to locate because of the beautifully restored steam engine that stands outside. The Robey stationary steam engine was imported from England in 1910 and powered a timber mill at Mt Nullum until the late 1950's when it was abandoned on site. A committed band of volunteers lovingly restored the engine and moved it to its new home at the museum at no cost. The plaque was unveiled on 26 May 2002.

The award winning multi-million dollar upgrade has a spacious, modern exhibition area that celebrates the history and the lives of the early settlers of the area.

is housed in a beautiful historic 1915 building that has been restored to its former glory and provides a calm, relaxing space to wander through and enjoy the many displays and exhibits.
Interesting displays include tools used in timber cutting, showing the importance of timber to the development of the area and the importance of the Tweed River for passenger travel and for the transportation of the logs.

The museum also hosts special exhibitions, talks and events. 'Aboriginal Breastplates of the Northern Rivers' is an exhibition opening 23 August. There is a talk about the history behind the Aboriginal breastplates scheduled for Wednesday 14 September, at 6pm. This exhibition coincides with the 2016 Local Government Aboriginal Network conference.

The and the Murwillumbah Historical Society also offer a local walk 'Murwillumbah's Historic Town Centre' the first Saturday of each month at 1pm. Phone (02) 66702273 for information. For those who would like to know how the collections are cared for, researched and prepared for display there is the tour 'Behind the Scenes at the Museum,' the third Thursday of each month, at 11am. For bookings and information phone (02) 66702493. There is a very special AUSLAN interpreted tour September 3rd 10-11am at the Museum. Bookings are essential.
