It is that time of year again when TV networks start to renew their favoured TV shows, cancel those that don't do well, and of course pick up new ones. And luckily for superhero fans out there, the latter part of this year marks the start of a number of superhero-themed TV shows. Granted, it seems that the superhero virus has not only struck movies.
From the makers of successful Arrow, The Flash features the eminent DC hero of the same name. Furthermore, The Flash and Arrow are supposed to be in the same universe, so crossovers are expected. In fact, The Flash's real name, Barry, has appeared in some Arrow episodes. Also keep an eye on the Arrow appearance on this trailer:
Verdict: Because this is a CW show, expect a more young-adult-ish twist to the show. Looking at Arrow's success, this show has the potential to be loved among fans, existing, and also new ones like me.
Yes, it's Batman's Gotham. However, don't expect a show focusing on Batman. Taking an interesting premise, Gotham tells the story of the origins of DC villains. It is set when Batman is just little Bruce Wayne. Check out the different villains featured in the trailer:
Verdict: A lot of people are saying because this is a FOX show, it is prone to cancellation. But some people are also excited for this show. I personally think the show will be interesting. I mean, who does not love a story told from the villain's side (Maleficent, Wicked?).
It seems that Marvel wants to compete in the TV world as well. After Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, there's Agent Carter. Not much is known on Agent Carter yet, but it is in the works and going to be a miniseries. Nevertheless, this is to be confirmed.
Verdict: The show should satisfy S.H.I.E.L.D fans, and taking the setting of 1946 would distinguish the show.
So what is your favourite? I personally cannot wait for The Flash because I love the hero, but trying all the shows first would not hurt.
The shows most likely will premiere in October 2014.
