Italians from all over Wollongong gather in Crown Street Mall on the last Saturday of May or the first Saturday in June to celebrate the day Italy became a republic. We call the day Tutti in Piazza meaning Everybody in the Square.
This year Saturday 4 June is the day when the Mall will be filled with all things Italian. Homemade pasta, castagne, sweets, cars, costumes, music and heaps more. The day starts with a procession around 11am where the proud Italo-Australians gather in their clubs and associations and make there way to the stage for the opening speeches which usually include a few politicians.
After that it is a free for all in the Mall. If you want pasta you have to get in early because the line is a massive one.
