Kuala Lumpur is a huge city with lots of different accommodation options. But if you want something cheaper, you really need to be discerning to ensure that you get good value for your money. I was pleased to discover that the Tune Hotel in Downtown Kuala Lumpur was as good on the ground as it appeared online.

Tune Hotels are a chain of hotels that are characterized by their modern design and bright red colour scheme. They are also on the lower end of the price range, and can make for a great option, often being located in the heart of major cities where prices can be particularly high.

Tune Hotel in Downtown Kuala Lumpur has a 24-hour front desk and the staff there spoke English well, helping make the check-in process quick and easy. There's lots of space in the lobby to sit, gather your things or just hang out - and there is a connecting café adjoining, for an added convenience.

I stayed in a single room on the 4th floor and found the location quiet and comfortable. Many lower cost rooms in Kuala Lumpur - and even other parts of Asia - don't have windows, but this one did. Although it was a narrow room with a small single bed it managed to fit a flat screen TV, full length mirror, bed-side table, a safe and a spacious private toilet and shower into the space.

There are a number of channels on the flat screen in English, the air-conditioning works well, the bed and pillows are comfy, and I found the free WiFi worked just fine for normal use. You receive some toiletries as part of your stay and this is always a nice addition.

The checkout process was also quick and easy. Just hand your key card back and you are done. Security guards are also present, making for a very safe-feeling accommodation.
The Chow Kit area
The hotel is in a prime location, located in the heart of Chow Kit - only 5 minutes walk from Medan Tuanku monorail station, so it's really easy to get to. Taxis are also easy to hail right outside the hotel, and it's a short taxi ride to most areas of interest around the city. There are options for food nearby, and Maya Junction Mall is directly opposite the hotel. Checkout time is at 11 am.
