I'm a writer blogger who has been resident in the Hutt Valley since the late 1960's. I'm a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. I have seen many people come and go over the years, seen many things good and bad. Time to remember life...
The annual community festival will be held in the Taita suburb of Lower Hutt on Saturday 19 March 2016, 10am - 3pm in the Taita shopping centre
Tumeke Taita - stand proud in Taita. This festival has become an important part of the Taita community and surrounding suburbs as well. While it is historically better known as the first planned state housing area in New Zealand in the early 1950's - Taita was a model for the rest of the country, it was the northernmost part of the old Lower Hutt borough town where stage coaches left for the hinterland in the Wairarapa in the 19th century. There was also a large Maori settlement on the bend of the Hutt River.
There will be loads of free activities and fun on this most popular day on Taita's calender. This year the community will have its brand spanking new Walter Nash Centre as part of the festivities.
An entertainment stage; childrens rides; a childrens area; a family cafe; youth activities; market stalls; tasty food stalls. Enjoy the day.
Health checks, and information available at booths and much, much, more, the organisers promise us This is my community where we have lived since the early 1970's and my children have attended local schools. This is also an important fundraiser for the local community.
The sponsors, the people and organisations who have freely given their time, service, talent and financial assistance are to be congratulated for a great effort. Now its up to the people of Taita and elsewhere to make it a success on the day.
