Experience a unique fashion that will immerse audiences in Filipino style, dance, music and cuisine! Tuloy Po Kayo is a Filipino phrase that means "welcome to our home", and is also the name of a fashion expo that will take place on Saturday, 1st June 2019 at the National Art School in Darlinghurst.
Featuring at this year's event is fashion designer John Herrera. Originally from the Philippines and now based in London, he was named Britain's Top Designer of the Year in 2017. His designs, primarily in evening wear for both men and women, have been described as "beyond heaven" in its impeccable tailoring, and draw profoundly from his Filipino heritage.
At this year's event, guests will be treated to a three-part exhibit, featuring the Armada Collection, inspired by ancient maps featuring the Philippines, and his award-winning 'Agila' (Eagle) Collection. Herrera is passionate about the plight of the Philippine eagle, which is nearing extinction, and, coupled with his admiration of Alexander McQueen's distorted and kaleidoscope prints, uses this opportunity to shed light on this critical theme. "I want to inspire more people to make a conscious effort to save them from being extinct".
The Tuloy Po Kayo fashion expo will also feature Filipino-Australian artist Marcus Rivera (The Engineer, Miss Saigon Australia) and RnB trio H3rizon (as seen in 'All Together Now'). Drinks and canapés on the night will be specially curated by the Filipino Food Movement Australia. The emcee for the event will be award-winning playwright and actor Giovanni Jose Ortega.
