Tulip Top Gardens near Canberra is bursting with spring blooms

There's a magical time each spring when the Rhodin family at Tulip Top Gardens welcome visitors to share their fairy-tale pretty spring garden. When it happens, you're invited into one of the most enchanting places in the Canberra region: bursting with blooms and dripping in blossom, the gardens are a true feast for the senses.

After being forced to provide fans with a digital visit in 2020, then a last-minute Covid-closure in 2021, the gardens are planted again and ready to welcome everyone back in 2022. To celebrate returning to the Canberra event calendar, Tulip Top's gardens will be open for an extra week this year so you can tip toe through their tulips from 10 September to 16 October 2022 from 9 to 5 daily, including public holidays.

Spread over four hectares, Tulip Top Gardens is family run and home to 1000 blossom trees, half a million bulbs and 100 000 annuals and the sheer scale of the display is mind-blowing. Layers of flowers and colour are everywhere you turn and each new space is as breathtakingly beautiful as the last. Everything is planted in garden beds so which provides a natural, soft beauty and the gardens change daily as each tree or flower has its time to shine. Whether you visit early in the season or later on, you're still going to see magic unfolding before your eyes because the clever displays are designed with staggered flowering times to maximise the blooming brilliance.

Tulip Top Gardens near Canberra opens September and October

As well as the flowers, the live music program will be back in 2022 so you can bring a picnic blanket and set up for an afternoon of live entertainment in the fresh air. Local winery Lerida Estate will be offering their delicious drops of wine for tasting and sales. Food is available on-site at the Garden Cafe which serves rolls, sandwiches, pies, chips and sausage sizzles. If you're after something sweet, the coffee parlour offers Dutch pancakes along with your caffeine hit. You can also bring your own food and drinks into the gardens so if you want to settle in for a picnic, you can get all gourmet in the gardens.

And it's not just fun for the garden brigade or crazy plant people like me. Kids love the fun atmosphere, photographers can snap themselves into a frenzy, and anyone with an Insta-account has the potential to create a viral post with the abundance of beautiful scenes and pooches are welcome too. There is disabled parking and the gravel paths are pram, walker and wheelchair free so no matter who you are or what you love, this garden is a must-do during the Canberra spring.

Last but not least, if your visit to Tulip Top has you inspired to get your green thumb into some soil, the nursery sells beautiful, healthy plants that offer great value for money and are well suited to the local climate so you can create your own mini Tulip Top at home.
