There's a magical time each spring when the folks at Tulip Top Gardens fling the gates wide open and welcome us inside. When it happens, you're invited into one of the most enchanting places in Canberra - bursting with blooms and dripping in blossom, the gardens are a true feast for the senses.
And it's not just fun for the grey-hair garden brigade or crazy plant people like me. Kids love the fun atmosphere, photographers can snap themselves into a frenzy, anyone with an Insta-account has the potential to create a viral post with the abundance of beautiful scenes and pooches are welcome too. No matter who you are or what you love, this garden is a must-do during the Canberra spring.
After being forced to provide fans with a digital visit in 2020, the 2021 experience aims to get back to an in-person event. The gardens are home to 1000 blossom trees, half a million bulbs and 100 000 annuals and the sheer scale of the display is mind-blowing. Layers of flowers and colour mean no matter where you turn, you will be met with a breathtakingly beautiful sight. Everything is planted in garden beds so which provides a natural, soft beauty and the gardens change daily as each tree or flower has its time to shine. Whether you visit early in the season or later on, you're still going to see magic unfolding before your eyes because the displays are designed with staggered flowering times.
As well as the flowers, the live music program will be back in 2021 so you can bring a picnic blanket and set up for an afternoon of live entertainment in the fresh air. You can bring your own food and drinks into the gardens so don't hold back. If you want to plan ahead, the entertainment lineup has been announced here.
Tulip Top Gardens is an absolute must-see so pencil it in and enjoy a tiptoe through the tulips this spring!
