I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
In Marrickville, close to the Factory Theatre, The Vic on the Park is a popular venue for inner west families. There is a great mix of clientele from people gathering for food and drink prior to a show to groups of friends catching up whilst listening to live music in the quirky car park beer garden. The Vic was acquired by the Merivale group in November 2017 and as yet has not undergone too many cosmetic changes.
The vegetarian falafel plate with tabbouleh and pickles was tasty and filling and good value at $24. The falafels were soft and juicy with a lovely flavour that was complemented by the creamy garlic sauce and peppery rocket. The menu contains pub classics such as burgers, schnitzels, steak and chips. They have offerings suitable for vegetarians and those on gluten-free diets, children's meals are $10 with a complimentary soft-serve dessert.
The 'old school' decor of the dining area contrasts with the quirky outdoor space that has a really relaxed youthful vibe. Weekends on the deck kick off at 5pm Friday with a menu of gyros, kransky, vegetarian, chicken and steak rolls for $15 each. These go well with a craft beer or two and a couple of games of basketball.
