60 and still adventuring !!

You've done all your chores - now what?
You're a woman, middle aged, not working, your children are grown and your hubby is at work. Other than clean the house, garden and wash the car you have done all that needs to be done. Now what?

Go in search of something.

How about abseilling down the cliffs at Kangaroo Point? Backing out over the edge of the cliff, your heart pounds, you look at your instructor who is telling you to lean straight out and with one foot at a time inch your way over the edge. "Don't forget to take in the view while you are on your way down" says he. Upon getting to the bottom you unleash yourself and run back up to the top to do it again. What a rush you get and you feel so alive.

You can do a course at the Riverlife Adventure Centre with the help of a qualified instructor and safety gear. You can check these out when everyone else is at work and begin your adventure close to the CBD, including rock climbing and kayaking the Brisbane River. Check here for information.

You could purchase coupons from Red Balloon and do things like climb the Story Bridge. They have an enormous range of activities for the taking. Find one that peaks your interest. Race car driving, sailing, speed boats and more await you here.

There are outdoor adventure spots for hikers. On the website, in the menu on the left hand side, there are headings like Get Outdoors which leads you to Places to Go - National Parks, Camps and Weekend and Holiday Activity Ideas. They even have a career and volunteer section if you are so inclined.

Not that adventurous? Take a course.

I took an article writing course, done by correspondence so it could be done in my own time. There are more than a dozen websites if you search courses online with over 130 online and distance learning facilities.

Activities such as Line Dancing, Gyms, Yoga: Hot yoga being the latest edition, are all out there for the taking.

Not sure how to use the computer or the internet? There are courses for that as well. Go and talk to the people at your local library and you can get started for free.

Volunteering in Australia is huge. Places from Mt.Coot-tha Botanical Garden, Outdoors Queensland, hospitals and more all have volunteer bases. How about helping the Koalas? Search for what you are interested in.

Want to do something more? You have a lot to give - how about Stepping Stones House and help out homeless teens? They have volunteer positions.

Go and search; adventure, learning, volunteering.

These and more are there for the taking.
