Fri 21 Mar 2014 - Sun 23 Mar 2014

The second edition of True North - Reservoir Arts Festival returns from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 March 2014.

Showcasing a fantastic variety of venue-based and pop-up arts happenings, this wonderful festival is not your usual arts event. Expect exciting things around Reservoir in not-so-traditional arts spaces. You'll never guess what you'll discover at pole-dancing studios, come across in laundromats (other than people doing their laundry), or stumble on in shipping containers. Plus, there are workshops, participatory events, music as well as a whole heap of special guests including bloggers Reservoir Dad and Voir Tales, as well as sound artist Michael Odwyer.

Allow the awesome Festival Launch Party to kick off your weekend on Friday from 6pm. Here's your chance to really let your hair down and party under the stars. Bob your head and stomp our feet to Soul Salvation, a 12-piece soul band from Melbourne. And watch Munro Melano perform and be mesmerised. This talented singer-song writer, session musician and film composer is not to be missed. Of course, the Compass Club pop-up bar will look after you throughout the evening.

The free Edwardes Street Party on Saturday welcomes people of all ages. This inaugural art party in the street guarantees a whole heap of fun with local and guest artists. Beginning at 1pm, the main stage provides an array of fantastic music and theatre. Shop fronts will be filled with art displays, plenty of hands-on workshops will delight the masses, and get involved in the public art project using cardboard boxes. In addition, visitors can enjoy roaming theatre, take a ride on the Ferris wheel and watch a stunning fireworks display.

The Darebin & Community Kite Festival is an event that you shouldn't miss for it provides the whole family a whole day of fabulous fun at Edwardes Lake Park on Sunday. The program for this event includes the best sounds, dances and shows for children and adults alike.

At 11am, the family friendly band All Day Fritz makes an appearance with a performance that will delight the audience with music that will move your dancing feet. And if you're keen to learn a few moves, then Dancing in the Park will help you out with a few steps from traditional Chinese dance, Bollywood and lots more. Other performances throughout the day includes Angela's Performing Arts School; Coro Furlan bringing sounds of Italy; three-piece indie-pop band Biddlewood; folk indie rock band Miss Eileen and King Lear; and The Rims.

Apart from the events mentioned above, you'll find various other venues holding workshops, performances and exhibitions. These include Dream Lab, The Red Falcon, Reservoir Library, Reservoir High School, Men's Shed and Broadway Laundrette amongst others.

There is so much going on here at the Festival so you should head to the True North - Reservoir Arts Festival website and take a look at the full list of events. To receive the latest news and updates, like their Facebook page and follow them on Twitter . Some free events may require booking as there are limited numbers so make sure you get in early!
