Hello sailor Come check out the fun at True North
True North Café is a relative newcomer to the Coburg area and one of only a few cafés in the northern part of Coburg. This place is hipster central with a very funky gold leaf sign out the front and a decor style that is a cross between retro shop and sailor tattoos.

I like that the café is in two parts so you can order at the counter and then go through into their other room and slink into one of the wooden booths, though being a comfort junkie I would have liked a cushion or two.

Eclectic mix of decor

Where I was sitting, the décor was a little bit rock and roll, a little bit nautical with posters, skull pot plants, and a very cool miniature sailing ship peeking out from one of the shelves - see if you can spot it when you visit.

They do breakfast and lunches with a mix of standard breakfast rolls, bagels and granola. Looking at their menu I ordered the Five and Dime Bagel, a bagel of your choice served with avocado, oil, lemon and chilli for $9. It filled me up and I love avocado whenever I can get it. The staff were friendly though slightly slow, when I'm coffee deprived I tend to want it right now. I know I'm a pain.

Lots of seating

The coffee was fine with some clever swirling artwork adorning my latte. I am a sucker for this sort of thing, it's cute.

The big windows along one side can make you either feel a bit on display next to the busy road but good for people watching, it depends on what mood you are in.
