Here's your chance to join in on a night of amazing fun while you actually change lives. Team up with as many friends as you can gather or just come along and meet up with a tableful of new friends.
The
Trivia Night Fundraiser for the Kagando Hospital in Uganda is being held in the
Good Samaritan Centre, Lourdes Hill College, 86 Hawthorne Rd, Hawthorne on Saturday, 22 August, 2015. Tables will be available from 6.00pm and the proceedings continue on until 10:30pm.
Entry to the night is $27 per person or, for a table of 10, $250.
The questions have already arrived and there is going to be a question for everybody so book your tables for this fabulous fundraiser. As well as bringing all your friends you can also bring along your own moreish nibbles and snacks. Just be sure not to let the nibbles dull your appetite because the organisers have arranged for a delicious supper to be included in the price of admission.
For your further enjoyment there is going to be a licensed bar where you can buy some liquid refreshment (so please don't BYO). I'm sure you'll agree that we all get a whole lot smarter when we have access to some 'liquid refreshment'! So this aspect of the night is sure to increase your total trivia output.
If you are concerned you might get all stressed out trying to answer trivia questions, don't fret. The night's festivities also includes other games and raffles where the winners will end up taking home some lovely prizes.
Part of this great night out includes the remarkable talents of Brannon Crickmore, the amazing fiddle player from Murphy's Pigs and Hillbilly Goats. Among other things, Brannon will be playing a round of Guess the Song questions, as well as a round of musical chairs.
The
Trivia Night Fundraiser for the Kagando Hospital, Uganda is organised by Jacinta Crickmore and supported by the
Continence Foundation of Australia. The night is held every two years, to raise funds to support the work of
Professor Judith Goh and
Doctor Hannah Krause who provide life-changing surgery at the
Kagando Hospital in Uganda repairing birth injuries, or fistulas, for young women.
The surgery enabled, in part, by the funds raised on nights like this literally changes the lives of women and children in third world countries. It is estimated that worldwide, over 100,000 women develop fistulas annually and at least 3 million women are living with fistulas today. It is an unfortunate fact of their existence that many of these women become outcasts from their families and societies because they are considered an embarrassment by their friends and relatives. They are often abandoned by their husbands and family.
Professor Judith Goh and
Doctor Hannah Krause will be giving a short presentation detailing their work with the
Kagando Fistula Hospital on the night.
Both Professor Goh and Doctor Krause are in private practice in Urogynaecology at Brisbane's Greenslopes Private Hospital. Dr Goh has a special interest in genital tract fistulas and gained a lot of her expertise in this area during voluntary medical work in Asia and Africa including work at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. Dr Krause gained a good deal of her relevant experience during several trips to work in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and Liberia.
The
Kagando Hospital is a rural community hospital with 250 beds and averages about 20,000 annual outpatient visits and about 18,000 annual inpatient admissions. All this with a full-time professional staff of two surgeons, two physicians, one anaesthesiologist, one physiotherapist and a number of nurses and midwives.
As you can see, there is be nothing trivial about the night except the questions and their answers. So join in the fun in the knowledge you are making sure others are going to live a full and enjoyable life they would otherwise not have had an opportunity to experience.
