Whatever comes to mind when you hear the words 'one night stand' goes out the window on June 2nd, as Triple J's annual free concert comes to the lucky town of Dalby, deep in the Darling Downs. The One Night Stand, this year, promises to buy you dinner, make you feel warm and fuzzy, and call you again, with some of the hottest names in Australian music performing.
Five bands, including a competition winner will take the stage at the Dalby show-grounds from 4.20pm and run through until 9.30pm. Gates open at 3pm and you don't have to worry about forgetting your ticket because it's free. Just be sure to carry some cash as there will be some merchandise, stalls and rides at the venue, as well a gold coin donation upon entry which will go toward a local charity. This seems a small price to pay considering the calibre of entertainment on the day.
Kicking off the day with their fun energy, will be Mace and The Motor. This three piece band also reigns from the Darling Downs region, Toowoomba. Luke, Mark and Mace beat many hopefuls to win the coveted opening spot on the line-up through a Triple J competition.
Another Triple J winner, of 'Unearthed High' two years ago, Stonefield will also grace the One Night Stand stage. The four piece sister act has risen to great heights in this short time, being Triple J airwave regulars and playing festivals, including Glastonbury.
Two other festival favourites, Matt Corby and 360 are sure to make you feel anything but cheap and used. Matt Corby's powerful and haunting voice will cut through the crisp Dalby air and with such great success with his song, 'Brother' - he is certain to be a crowd hit. A man who is admittedly over one night flings, 360, will put on his high octane, full of attitude, Aussie hip hop act, which is sure to get the audience in the mood.
To take this mood to the next level, headliners, The Temper Trap will close the show on a high. Upon the release of their new self-titled studio album, and the fact this home grown band has not toured here since 2010, this will be a highly anticipated set.
With such amazing names in Australian music coming to this usually quiet town, Triple J's One Night Stand his year promises to get you lucky. You may even have such a good time together it could be the start of a beautiful relationship and leave you begging for more.
