Australia Day is synonymous with many traditions; a sun drenched backyard with the BBQ crackling, beers in flagged stubby holders, a game of cricket and tunes turned to maximum volume.

It is in this last trait that much controversy and discussion flows into the night. Triple J's Hottest 100 is the annual countdown of most loved songs from the previous year. Recent winners include Vance Joy's Riptide, Macklemore's Thriftshop and Gotye's Somebody that I used to know.

The greatest aspect (generally) of Triple J's flagship event is that it doesn't feature the dominating pop artists that other radio stations flog to death. Unfortunately, this year may be an exception.

There has been a recent rally to have Taylor Swift included on the countdown. None of her songs have ever been played on Triple J, yet fans of the diva have protested and voted to ensure she stomps on the party.

She's only trumped by Peking Duk's High in the betting, and it looks as though her devoted fans will get their way and hear Shake it off at some point in the day.

Other favourites include Stolen dance by Milky Chance, Cosby sweater by Hilltop Hoods and ZHU's opening hit Faded.

Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Childish Gambino and DeadMau5 are popular international artists seeking multiple entries, while Unearthed participants also hope to contribute to the list.
