Toby Chittenden is a quiet, respectable man employed in the corporate sector, with hobbies ranging from cups of tea and model train network design to birdwatching, the ABC, and sitting quietly.
Not really.
Toby Chittenden is a maniac, who struggles to keep things in check during the week until he's able to jump up on stage and into the skin of whichever poor soul he happens to be channeling.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Toby in a few productions now, and the range of characters he plays is exhausting. Whether playing both a mother and son in slow-burning monologue
A Chip In The Sugar or Jack Nicholson's brash Randle McMurphy in a recent adaptation of
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Chittenden is a solid character actor.
Now Toby is proud to present his one-man show,
Trichotomy of Jest.
The culmination of several years work developing and performing three very different comical characters (each with a unique view of the world),**
Trichotomy of Jest[/B] assembles them into a single irreverent, boisterous one-man comedy show full of fun, laughs and questionable taste!
Through the wild rantings at the world of a manic and kilted Scotsman, the stories and self-analysis of a talking horse, and the debatable morals of a debonair gastronome, this madcap show will amuse, intrigue and unsettle in equal measure.
Such a distinguished and diverse roster of roustabouts deserves a quick sneaky-peek, what?
Julian Cockburn
Julian Cockburn is a food writer and culinary critic
par excellence; with a penchant for farming and all things rural, he takes us through a gastronomic smorgasbord of country life as seen from the veranda of his hobby farm. A little bit Noel Coward with lashings of latent Farmer Hoggett, can the notoriously cosmopolitan Julian cut it out in the sticks?
Will the tending of his small-holding harden the resolve (and hands) of our softly-spoken Julian, or will the privations of rural life drive him, a broken man, back to the city with his tail between his legs?
Nigel Furlong-Fencehurdler
Being born into high privilege (almost royalty) in the equine world is not enough for our Nigel. He feels, nay (sorry!) knows, that he has been marked out for greater things in life. That he is destined for high office and wide renown.
Listen to the gracious retelling of his noble upbringing and truly remarkable life. His plans for the future, and the struggles he must bravely navigate to get there.
This is a story of the life and times of a thoroughbred, of elegance and expectation, of ambition and entitlement, of politics and power set against a backdrop of ego, betrayal, sex, and drugs. Hold onto to your fascinators folks!
Jimmy McKleish
A loud and proud Scotsman, Jimmy is a ranting, ribald raconteur. A storyteller who holds strong opinions on pretty much everything and anything, he is never shy of sharing those opinions with anyone prepared to listen (and many who aren't!).
His vernacular verges on the vulgar but he feels this brings a working class colour to his stories, despite him being notoriously work-shy and never actually having done a proper day's work in his life.
He is convinced that you will love him for his rugged good looks and roguish charm (his words) and that you will warm to the humour of his "peoples philosophy" (railing against the outrageous inequalities in life). But will you?
