Tree Top Adventure is a theme park with two locations; in Subic and Baguio in the Philippines. The Subic Park has a jungle backdrop and is covered by a canopy of tall, thick, native Filipino trees. Jungle adventure comes in the form of nature activities, such as trekking with a twist and adrenaline-kicking rides, such as free fall and the other tree drop adventure rides.
Subic is around one hundred forty kilometres north of Manila. Traffic aside, one should reach Subic from the Makati CBD in less than two hours. Manila traffic is rarely non-existent though and a couple of hours' allowance each way is recommended, even on weekends. The good news is that there is a new toll highway that takes one directly to Subic to avoid the townships along the regional road. This saves travellers at least a half-hour drive to Subic.
The park is worth the travel, especially for rush junkies who like outdoor adventure activities. There are roller coasters and other coaster rides and then there are eco rides; zip lining, zip wiring, canopy treks, tree drops and the like.
Tree Drop Adventure Park is a refreshing change from Manila's concrete jungle feel. Here one can connect with nature and appreciate all it has to offer. The trekking adventure is conducted by an Aeta who goes through basic wilderness survival; sourcing food and potable water from trees and creating eating articles from Bamboo and other jungle materials, such as, a spoon and fork, a knife, a bowl, and a drinking canteen, for example.
The Aetas are an indigenous people to this part of the Philippines. They are traditionally a hunting/gathering people and are recognised as among the most-skilled in jungle survival. This skill was used to train the US military even before the Vietnam War.
Other activities in Tree Top Adventure Park are the superman ride, the silver surfer, the tree drop adventure, the interactive free fall, and the canopy ride. The common denominator among these thrill rides is the height factor. The rider is safely harnessed and the harness is double-checked by the guide at each station. It is also reassuring that a guide accompanies and sees to the safety of the rider and the groups through each section of the ride.
I tried the trek and went on the canopy and superman rides. The trek was thoroughly enjoyable and edifying while the rides were pretty tame compared to zip lining. One can choose to book individual rides or a package with a set of rides or one that includes all park rides and activities.
If you fancy a photo taken to memorialise that look of terror on your face while free falling, for example, the park obliges. Photos are available to buy at the park's exit.
