This August, a remarkable young man is going to attempt to break the world record for 12 hours running on a treadmill at the Cannon Hilll Shopping Centre- all in the name of cancer.
Reece Anderson and his siblings lost their mother just over a year ago. In a bid to help others that encounter similar situations, Reece has organised this event with the amazing goal of fundraising $20,000 for the Cancer Council Queensland.
'So many people suffer from this horrible disease. Running 12 hours on a treadmill is nothing in comparison to what cancer patients have to go through', says Reece. 'Since organising this event, so many people have contacted me with their own personal stories of how cancer has hurt them, and their families. These people, my mum, and everyone out there suffering from this disease will be my inspiration- kilometre after kilometre'.
The event will take place here in Brisbane at the Cannon Hill Shopping Centre. If you are inspired by his enthusiasm, head down on August 16- his mums birthday. The run will take place between the hours of 7am and 7pm. To break the world record, Reece will need to run further than 145.5 kilometres in a 12 hour period.
To put this run into perspective, Reece will be running 3.5 marathons in one day. Another comparison is running from Brisbane to 12 kilometres outside of Byron Bay. That is unbelievable!
Lots of other items are organised for the day – a second treadmill will be set up for other people to run alongside this ultra marathon man. There will be raffles, music, a MC and lots of other fun things happening.
Make sure you head down to the Cannon Hill Shopping Centre on the 16th of August to see a little piece of history in the making, and to join in on an action packed, fun filled day.
