A long, long time ago in a place not far from home, the story of a caring bear began. In the year the first web server was created, Bob Hawke headed up the country as Prime Minister and Midnight Oil was topping the charts, a new teddy was born. Since that day in 1990, Trauma Teddy has helped comfort countless children through times of crisis. Over 1 million children have cuddled a colourful, comforting Trauma Teddy since it began -through fleeing bushfires, floods and other emergencies, as a warm welcome to refugee children, company in a speeding ambulance, friendly security in hospital, a happy face in a lonely time. Each takes about 5 hours to knit and finish each Teddy. Every Trauma Teddy is lovingly put together, and they must also pass a quality control test to guarantee comfort and safety.
Winter is a beautiful time to knit and it also seems to be a time when you most feel like knitting something. You can knit and do good at the same time for our traumatised young-uns in their time of need.
See here for the patterns and all other details. You can also use the same link for
Contact to find out how you can start knitting, join a group, or receive Trauma Teddies. You'll also find a
PDF pattern here .
For instance, there's a Trauma Teddy Knitting Group at the
Cessnock City Library in NSW . They meet
every 2nd Wednesday from 10am to 12pm to knit together, have morning tea and enjoy friendly conversation. Non-knitters are welcome to help sew and stuff the knitted skins too. You'll find the details via the given
link .
Looks like Kempsey Shire Libraries in NSW also have a group running at 22, Elbow St, West Kempsey. They meet on the
1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 1-3pm. See more details here .
Look around your state, and you'll no doubt find local groups, so you can have fun while knitting with a group of like-minded, generous-hearted others.
