I discovered Trash Monkey when I was looking for a vintage style dress to wear for an evening date. I found the perfect myrtle red party dress by Lindy Bop.
I was tired of my lipstick only lasting five minutes so I did some research and found the retro brand Besame by following one of my favourite people on Instagram. I tried to find a stockist in Brisbane and Trash Monkey came up. I went back to the shop and I bought the exact shade of red lippie that I was after. This lipstick lasted until about lunch time before I needed to reapply it.
While in the shop I came across Jeffree Star Cosmetics. His lipstick range comes in the most outrageous shades and his products have a cult following. Whenever he releases a new colour it is sold out in hours. You can match your lipstick with Manic Panic hair dye in a range of vibrant rainbow colours.
Trash Monkey stocks some of the best brands for retro, vintage and rockabilly, such as Bernie Dexter, Bettie Page, Dolly and Dotty, Hell Bunny, Stop Staring, and Steady Clothing. There are a range of tops, skirts and shorts, dresses, swimwear and lingerie to fit a range of sizes. I love the cut and style of vintage clothes as it's more forgiving for women with some curves.
There are outfits for unique individuals who like to wear punk, Gothic or rocker outfits. These include brands like Disturbia, Iron Fist, Villains and creeper shoes.
Trash Monkey stocks a range of retro and alternative clothing for men, including the highly collectable one-off jackets and vests from Red Mutha.
Trash Monkey also stocks a great range of shoes, jewellery, necklaces, retro sunnies and fabric roses to decorate your hair. There is a range of quirky gifts under the front counter for your hard-to-buy-for friends.
Trash Monkey is located at shop 9/8 Duncan Street, Fortuneland Court in Chinatown, Fortitude Valley. You can also buy from their online shop.
