The Transition Darebin's Food Swaps are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, with Fairfield now having its very first event. Hosted by Darebin Urban Harvesters , it'll be run at St Andrews Church - 85 Gillies Street, (corner Gillies and Duncan Streets @ side garden facing Duncan Street), Fairfield on Saturday 21 April 2018 from 11am to 12pm. Running for just an hour, time is of the essence.

This event will continue to run till 16 February 2019, with other dates following this first event being on a Saturday always, along with the same timeframes every month. Other upcoming dates you can put in your diary are 19 May, 16 June, 21 July, 18 August, 15 September, 20 October, 17 November, and 15 December in 2018 and 19 January and 16 February in 2019.

It's a friendly community-minded event as you share your excess produce with your neighbours so to speak. Some ideas to bring along for swapping include vegetables, fruit, herbs, spices, seeds from your garden, seedlings, eggs, home-baked goods, preserves, olives, kombucha scobies, worm juice, kefir grains, cordials, sourdough starter, and so on. The list is endless.

Food Swaps gives you a chance to meet your community and to learn from each other as you talk about gardens and sustainability, share goodies from the garden or homemade and home baked items. Like all good swaps, you bring some and you get some to take home as well.

Transition Darebin is part of a worldwide Transition Network that are a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world.

This particular group is about helping and educating the Darebin community about sustainability via practical solutions like growing your own food, planning for energy efficiency in homes and buildings, heading towards fossil-fuel-free transport, encouraging local production of goods and services and making it a habit to reuse and recycle at every opportunity. With a strong social justice focus, the vision is for a re-localised and resilient Darebin for current and future generations. Join the movement.
