Have you looked in your garage or shed lately and found tools that you remember being given to you as a kid or maybe even tools that have been handed down from your dad or mum, and wonder to yourself what are these things and how do I use them.

They may be cutting and edge tools, such as scythe or sickle implements that produce a shearing force along a narrow face. Or maybe they are gouges and drill bits. It might be a plane that is made of wood and has a metal blade. There are literally thousands of hand tools that are found in garages, sheds and workshops that people may not know what to do with or how to use them.

If that is you and you would like to find out what the particular hand tool is and how to use it, The Traditional Tools Group (TTTG) will be able to help you discover the wonders of hand tools and how to use them.

TTTG is a not-for-profit society interested in traditional tools and skills and their members include artisans and amateurs, tool users and collectors. They hold six meetings per year at the National Trust Centre in Sydney. Throughout the year they publish 6 issues of NEWS and they also offer hands-on and real skills workshops (for a fee) throughout the year.

TTTG promotes the preservation of traditional tools and trade skills and runs workshops teaching these skills and their members are interested in quality hand tools and old machinery and in the use of tools and machines.

So how good would it be to be able to not only learn what type of hand tool you have, but to also learn how to use that particular tool.

Maybe you would like to go one step further and become a member of TTTG and meet up with other likeminded people.
