Did you know that on average, 10 tradies nationwide are badly injured at work each day? That's a staggering 3650 per annum! And nearly a quarter of all roofers, labourers and plumbers experience back pain, muscle stress and strain from lifting equipment or slips, trips, and falls when handling materials.
That is why safety boot manufacturers
Steel Blue and the
Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) have teamed up to create
Tradies' National Health Month. During August, tradies are encouraged to focus on the importance of full body health and safety.
A range of resources has been made available on the
Tradies' National Health Month website. You will find videos on various health topics, including diabetes and heart health, back injuries and knee injuries. There are also
downloadable PDF files on health issues including bullying in the workplace, protecting your hearing and preventing back strain.
As this clip suggests, 'Tradies fix most things, but not always themselves'.
Throughout August there will be events happening at worksites nationwide to celebrate and promote health and safety. What can you do to promote a focus on safety at your workplace?
Tradies are encouraged to register their support
online and take part in the month. If you register, you also enter a
$4,000 prize draw to win the ultimate outdoor adventure – choose from the ultimate surfing, camping or fishing trip.
So get on board and focus on your health! It's in your best interests to do so.
