Do you love a murder mystery? Have you always been fascinated by forensics? Do you always solve the crime before your favourite detective show does through your highly deductive powers? Are you curious how the "real" police solve these mysteries? Then this is the one visit you are going to have to make as soon as you finish this article.

Could this be a Lie Detector Kit - Find out at the Exhibit
Could this be a Lie Detector Kit - Find out at the Exhibit

Police technology has always fascinated me. Maybe because my Grandfather was a Sergeant Detective and a very well respected and loved one at that. He could tell us a few stories, but not many of his numerous adventures and nabbing of the bad boys, due to confidentiality. But I adored the ones he was allowed to share. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a Police Person in our lives to ask those questions on how they solve the many mysteries they do. So how do we get a peek into these stories?

Predict the Future - Brainstorm the possibilities
Predict the Future - Brainstorm the possibilities of what the criminal might do next

Have you ever wondered how detectives predict the next move a criminal might make? I can't wait to learn how modern detectives get into the minds of their criminals and predict their next moves.
It must be thrilling to outsmart them and be there to nab them red handed.

Step 3 - What could it be
Step 3 - What could it be

Now you and I now have this chance, to find out all about these techniques and technologies the Police use to assist them in their investigations and solve those crimes. Lucky for us the event is right here in Melbourne at the Victoria Police Museum.

They are proudly presenting an exhibition focusing on all the things Police do to perform their investigations and it is called "TRACE". According to Amber Evangelista, who is the Public Programs Curator, Historical Services of the Media & Corporate Communications, Victoria Police, "This is your chance to learn about, Police technology used in the past, present and a peek into the future. She further states, " TRACE focuses on gadgets and devices that have shaped contemporary and historical policing practices, and have influenced the way crime prevention and detection occurs. From crime-scene technologies to road-policing devices, Trace reveals a suite of historical and contemporary technologies, from Morse-code through to advanced facial recognition. Highlights include a forensic technologies zone, spy cameras and a night vision scope."

There are also numerous documents, objects and stories that reveal the secrets and mysteries behind police technologies, with a real emphasis on how these gadgets and devices work.
If you or your children have curious minds, are excited by gadgets, love to get out and about in the holidays, then this is the FREE exhibition for you.

TRACE - Detectives and their best crime detection

There are also interactive exhibitions for those more geeky then the rest of us. And it is the perfect "cool" atmosphere to enter during the school holidays as museum exhibitions tend to need to keep their ambient temperatures quite nicely chilled to protect their artefacts.
