All things Vietnamese
It's as Vietnamese as it gets. Seriously. As an almost expatriate to Vietnam, I had to spend 2 weeks there living and breathing all of Vietnam. And I have found Tra Vinh to be as Vietnamese as Vietnamese cuisine gets. It doesn't just taste Vietnamese, it smells of Vietnam from the moment you enter too!
Now that's really Vietnamese. Its the pong of hearty pho soups that first hits you. You look around, hey, its all Vietnamese folks (Okay, I exaggerate, its mainly Asians and with a couple of Caucasian folks who know where to find great Vietnamese food). Even the deco reminds me of Vietnam.
My personal favourite is the Pork Chop Rice or Com Tam Dac Biet. Its served with "broken" rice (its just not whole grains of rice), a piece of lemongrass and fish-sauce (and probably more) marinated pork chop, fried egg and "pate". I'm not joking when I say its the best pork chop rice I ever had. Even my friend's Vietnamese sister-in-law concurs.
