Maude will be victim number 12

Lately, she hasn't been feeling too safe, with strange voicemail messages and occurrences.

But Maude (Faran Martin) is an accomplished and intelligent woman – she is a clinical psychiatrist and treats the victims of the 'Toyer'.

The 'Toyer' receives sexual gratification through the paraphilia of 'voyeurism'. Due to his obsessive and horrendous crimes, his victims are rendered into a permanent 'zombie' state.

Maude has profiled the 'Toyer' through sound psychological theory, the forensic examination of the nature of his crimes, and identified potential motives and his Achilles' heel. Logically, Maude thinks she can heal the 'Toyer'.

Then Maude meets Peter (Kashmir Sinnamon).

Directed by Sarah Hallam, this play starts with almost awkward slowness, which is slightly uncomfortable, but there is method in the madness. Not only do Faran and Sinnamon deliver highly believable characters, but the devil is also in the detail of the production (Jessica To) where every movement and placement of objects is important to build the suspense.

The audience is seduced into a perfect nightmare of powerful psychological manipulation – from victim to lover, abused to abuser, innocent to criminal, this play shows how vulnerability and strength are vital tools to survive the human jungle.

The 'Toyer' is the ultimate predator and the ultimate coward simultaneously. He has a plan, a process and constructs situations to enable his satisfaction. He may appear normal, attractive, even caring, and knows the intimate details of his victims' life.

Similar crimes are reported in the media every day. But 'Toyer' goes one step further – what happens when it's in your face?

In the human ecosystem, the psychopath and psychiatrist need each other to survive. Or do they?

Don't miss 'Toyer' on now until 13 May.
