The Town of Bassendean, in partnership with the Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service is proudly presenting this year's NAIDOC Family Day event!
Held on Thursday 9th of July, 2015 at Ashfield Reserve, this FREE vibrant community festival showcases the rich and diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in a fun family-friendly atmosphere.
Event-goers will be treated to a great programme of special events and activities, including traditional dance and song, free food, kids' entertainment and activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, cuddly animal farm, along with lots of information and giveaways.
Town of Bassendean Mayor, Cr John Gangell, said the Town was delighted to have a great line-up of performers as part of this year's NAIDOC Family Day celebrations and highlighted the importance of the event on the Town's annual event calendar.
"NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia in July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people" he said.
"The National theme for this year is 'We all stand on Sacred Ground, learn, respect & celebrate'. This year the theme highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' strong spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea".
"The Family Day is targeted at both Indigenous and non Indigenous people to reflect the national theme and encourage greater understanding and appreciation of our cultural diversity", said Cr Gangell.

NAIDOC Family Fun Day 2015, will run from 10.30am to 3pm at Ashfield Reserve, cnr Fisher Street and Guildford Road, Ashfield.
