'Tower Heist' steals nothing more than the viewers' money for an unoriginal narrative.

'Tower Heist' has a high-billed cast ready to deliver what seemed to be a good narrative but it just ends up being a let-down.

Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck and Tea Leoni are just a few names that would make you think a film with this much talent would create a great comedy film, however, I feel it just did not live up to the expectation.

The narrative is not as action packed or as funny as I thought it was going to be; if you are selling the idea of a comedy-caper film with Stiller, Murphy and Broderick starring, you have to make sure it is worth your while and make people laugh in nearly every other scene. I laughed only a few times but I was expecting many more. I found it quite boring at times and there are unnecessary scenes that do not need to make the final cut.

Furthermore, the script is unoriginal in my opinion. As I was watching this film, I was thinking that this has all been done before apart from the ending. I did like the climax because it is different to other capers, but I still feel the film does not warrant a positive review just because of the finale.

As I stated above, the cast is formidable and highly respected in their fields of comedy with the likes of Stiller, Murphy and Broderick. I think they all were particularly average in their roles and no one really stood out. It felt more of a lazy drama with hints of cheap gags than a top comedy to be honest. I cannot remember the last time I watched a film with Stiller or Murphy in as 'comedy stars' and not been left feeling let down afterwards. In recent years, their comedy films have not hit their peak in my opinion. 'Tower Heist' certainly fits into that category for me.

The Verdict
To sum up, I yet again feel disappointed with Stiller's/Murphy's latest offering. I thought with them both at the helm, the film would be a sure-fire of laughs but they just did not come. I am just confused of what feel Brett Ratner (director) was going for, whether it be an out-and-out comedy or just a silly but at times clever crime-caper; I think he failed at both. As I watched this film, I just wanted to put 'Ocean's Eleven' or 'Man on a Ledge' on. Both the latter actually have clever scenes and more of a meatier script. I feel robbed by being sold an unoriginal script; 'Tower Heist' did not do anything for me.

Star Rating: 2/5
