Don't panic

"In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." If you know where that quote comes from, then this event is for you! And if you don't know where that line comes from, then you need to read one of the best books ever written as soon as possible! Of course, this quote doesn't come from the first book, but once you read the first one, then you are going to definitely want to read the rest. Towel Day every year is May 25th and celebrates all the best parts of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. And the Perth Observatory is hosting a Towel Day Night Tour which promises to excite even Marvin the paranoid android.

May 25th is author of the book, Douglas Adams' birthday. This year would have been his 70th birthday. Douglas Adams passed away in 2001 at the age of 49. He was an incredible author and person, writing the Hitchhikers Guide series and the Dirk Gently series as well. He also wrote essays, scripts (including scripts for Doctor Who) and even video games.

To attend this event, you have to have your towel with you. Towels are very useful as everyone knows. You also have to make sure that you want to see the universe and everything else. The volunteers at the observatory will take you on a tour where you will see nebulas, dying stars and get up close and personal with the moon and its craters. While you're there, you will also get the chance to see some historical telescopes and meteorites.

If the event is disrupted due to rain or clouds, don't panic. It will still take place, where you can see the rest of the observatory and hope that the clouds pass by. However, it there is severe weather expected or you don't want to go when you know you won't see anything in the night sky, then you can transfer the ticket to another night. If you do this, then you won't be going to the Towel Day Tour, just a normal and really exciting tour.

The tours are a 1 and a half to 2-hour event. It starts at 7:30pm on, of course, the 25th of May. Tickets are $30 for children over 12, $40 for concessions and $55 for adults.
