Tour in a Box

Walk Melbourne normally offers popular tours showcasing what Melbourne has to offer for both tourists and locals. Many of the sensational finds are tucked away in street art covered alleyways and behind secret doors.

Tours comb Melbourne's warren of laneways for the best cafes, bars, dumpling houses, chocolates and Melbourne's pride and joy - coffee.

These tours aren't operating at the moment due to present gathering restrictions but you can still experience some of what these great tours offer as the tastes and flavours can be delivered to you in a gift box.

The box includes five tastings from different venues all located in the laneways and arcades of Melbourne. Some of the tastings are ready to eat. Some of them require a little hands-on participation such as dumpling making.

But don't worry - as the tour in a box comes with access to instructional videos.

What's included:
Guided map and stories
Ground coffee (250g)
2-cup pour over cone
Filter coffee papers
Dumpling wrappers (500g)
Australian raw honey (140g)
Hosier Lane chocolate bar (100g)
Chilli salt (5g)
Bonus gift to warm you up during a Melbourne winter.

The gift will have you making dumplings, and enjoying an excellent Melbourne coffee as well as learning more about Melbourne's tucked away gems. You'll also have the map so you can go on a future outing.

The only additional items you will need are 300g mince (pork works best), and a bit of sugar. The activities in the box will take about an hour and the servings and experiences are for two people.

Cost: $130 for 2 people ($150 for the cocktail upgrade - grown-ups only!). Free shipping anywhere in Australia (using Australia Post).

Around the World in 15 Spices

Himanshi Munshaw Luhar started her business Foodie Trails nearly nine years ago and organises home cookery style classes where presenters hand down recipes for family favourite dishes, whether they be Sri Lankan, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican or Indian.

Himanshi is also a key figure in organising a number of Melbourne's top multicultural food festivals. Normally, there are also her excellent food trail tours such as African Trails in Footscray, and Masala Trails in the CBD and Dandenong which allow her to share her unique insights into ethnic food. Her Melbourne FoodieTour explores the Melbourne CBD. I've written about it here. Even though I am a local, I learnt about heaps of new places.

While there is a pause on tours, Himanshi has joined with her sister, Rushina M. Ghildiyal, on a special project to create a spice box where you can tour the world through 15 spices. Himanshi has carefully selected the spices and her sister has compiled and created the recipes into a book, so you can learn how to use these spices in family cooking.
The collection of 15 spices is tastefully put together and helps you to experiment with the spices whilst still using ingredients commonly found in your fridge or pantry.

All boxes purchased give you exclusive access to a series of spice lessons in a combination of blogs and videos curated to take you on a journey around the world to explore the spices. You will learn about the origins, flavours and benefits of the spices you receive

The box includes a limited-edition customised recipe book by international author and food historian Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal.

15 single-origin spice packs including:
