On Saturday 4 June from 10am - 3pm, Blackwood and surrounds will be filled with super specials, fantastic freebies, street art displays, music, vouchers, exciting entertainment and much much, more as Totally Locally traders celebrate Blackwood's Totally Locally 1st Anniversary.
Last year
Totally Locally was launched in Blackwood with the aim of getting shoppers to support local traders and to shop locally. It is entirely run voluntarily by local businesses and traders. Heather Holmes-Ross from
Artisan Café , who is heading up the Totally Locally campaign, says: "Our aim is to get people to spend just $10 at a local, independent retailer [excluding supermarkets] to see $10.6 million being put back into the community; instead of buying your apples at the supermarket, buy them at the local grocer instead."
From gifts, jewellery, art and clothing to butchers,
fruit & veg shops supporting local growers , photography and wellbeing services, Blackwood's
Totally Locally traders have something for everyone.
Pick up a
book, have a haircut, check out the
art gallery , buy a gift or two for others or
buy one for yourself, and then take a break at one of the member cafes. And you can always pick up a plant from the garden centre on the way back home.
Follow the Blackwood Discovery Trail by looking for the blue balloons outside all participating traders in Belair, Blackwood, Coromandel, Eden Hills, Hawthornedene and other surrounding suburbs.
Totally Locally member Elita Stalman from
Lampin Ink Tattoo studio in Bellevue Heights said she hopes to have a hip hop band and live digital art displays and it's rumoured some movie characters may be appearing there too.
Maps will be available from participating traders or can be downloaded from the website.
There will be a variety of entertainment including music from Blackwood's very own band,
Strange Brew Adelaide and an entertaining ukulele band and face painters to keep you and the kids amused.
The Gnomes are back
To help you discover the area's delights (and to keep the kids amused while you do your shopping), the
Totally Locally Team has introduced the exciting Gnome Trail. This is your chance to win one of ten $100 vouchers to be spent at any
Totally Locally Blackwood business.
Each participating business will have a gnome somewhere in their shop - all you have to do is pick up a card from a participating shop, visit the stores on the list, find the gnome and receive a stamp. When you've found all the gnomes, drop your card off at a
Totally Locally Blackwood business and you will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of ten $100 vouchers to be spent at any
Totally Locally Blackwood business.
As there are around 50 Totally Locally members listed on the Gnome Trail, organisers have given you a month to complete it. The draw for the $100 vouchers will take place on Saturday 2 July - time and place to be decided and announced shortly. Keep checking its social media and website for details.
There are plenty of other great activities in the area you can enjoy when you pop up to complete your Gnome Trail. Take a
historical walk round Blackwood or enjoy the lovely
Wittunga Botanical Gardens . Mountain bikers might want to try out the bike trails at
Craigburn Farm or check out what
Belair National Park offers.
