Whether you are an art lover or not, do yourself a favour and step inside this stylish and modern gallery in Toowoomba. Situated right next door to the iconic Weis' Restaurant, the gallery is easy to find and parking is available onsite and on the street. Access for wheelchairs and prams is provided, making it possible for everyone to enjoy the wonderful artwork being exhibited. Once inside, you'll be greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome.
Last Friday night saw the opening of Tosari's latest exhibition by artist, Melanie Hava. Melanie's works are stunning, with the use of jewel-like colors, gold lead and Swarovski crystals making them truly unique.
Born to a father from Austria and a mother from the aboriginal Mamu people in Queensland, Melanie's work is a combination of the two cultures. Her art is heavily influenced by her favourite artist, Gustav Klimt from Austria. Melanie gives indigenous artwork a contemporary twist that is visually breathtaking, with designs and colours that make it hard to tear your eyes away! Her exhibition at will run for one month.
Also on display are beautiful pieces by one of Australia's leading master glass workers,
Eamonn Vereker . This artist was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland and was trained by Waterford Crystal. Each item he creates is a unique, finely crafted piece of work.
Through an ethical trade partnership with a rural village in Thailand the gallery sells colourful papier baskets and bowls. Recycled magazines and junk mail that would have been landfill are used to make these pieces. The partnership provides employment, training and income to villagers whilst creating a self sufficient community. The added bonus is that this craft is also environmentally beneficial.
As you wander through the different rooms at Tosari's, you discover new delights at each turn and it's hard to leave without a memento of your visit. Beautiful gift ideas are displayed to tempt you and if you're buying a gift for a special occasion, it can be gift wrapped for you. Jewellery, handbags, homewares, furniture, books and Glasshouse candles are amongst the items on sale. Also available is a gift register, which would have to be a great idea if you're trying to buy for that special someone who has everything!
Art supplies can be purchased at the gallery and art classes and workshops also run here (see website for details). If you are unable to visit personally, online shopping is available on the website.
Don't plan on a rushed visit to as once you enter, you'll want to take your time and soak it all in - take the time to stop and ....... well, just enjoy!
