Sailing is one of the best ways to relax on a gloriously sunny day. So why not try Topsides Up Sailing . Their packages and course suit all capabilities, from Basic, Intermediate, Private Coaching and even an overnight stay.

The overnight course involves a two-day stay on the Yacht complete with breakfast and dinner.

Being novices, my partner and I went for the 'Try Sail' option upon the beautiful yacht Carpe Diem, a 38ft Hunter with all the mod cons. We were among nine others on our three-hour experience. The skipper, Hank was extremely friendly and inviting. When you first board he asks about your swimming capability- just in case you decide to take a dip. Before you grab a seat up on deck and sail out towards Harbour Bridge and beyond.

Hank is ranked 9th overall in the recent Olympic Class Laser World Masters Championship, although when we asked him about his achievements he was very modest. Hank has been sailing since the age of nine, when his dad used to take him out on weekend adventures.

The 'Try Sail' taster course included a syllabus ranging from Knots and Trimming the Sails to Points of Sail, which for those of you who don't know describes a sailing boat's course in relation to the wind direction. We had plenty of time for site seeing around the bays of Sydney Harbour and happy-snapping away at the amazing views you are unlikely to see from land; the millionaire's mansions lining the shores complete with their very own private beaches or the intriguing Cockatoo Island, and the giant statue of a diver, donning an early submersible suit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon but the blue skies did help to make the experience even more wonderful. The 'Try Sail' days are great for people who want to give sailing a go. The current offer is $75 for three hours. There are morning and afternoon session.

Pick up is on the Corner of Henley marine Drive and Cary Street. Directly under the old Iron Cove Bridge in Drummoyne.

It is best to park in the Birkenhead shopping centre as the experience can run over three hours.
