This one-kilometre road runs downhill from Yarra Road to Homestead Road.

It is a most interesting walk with many garden ornaments with a difference. One is a metal eagle about to land on its nest to feed its young.

It is a road of one acre and half-acre blocks. With such large blocks, most houses are built well back from the road with many hidden behind large vegetated front gardens. Very few had a front fence. One had a brick planter box built into the mailbox with a colourful display of petunias.

Trees and shrubs, rather than flowers were the dominant flora. Some nice large landscaped garden beds were a delight to see and admire.

A banksia bush was at it prime with cobs almost looking like corn cobs. A row of Easter lilies were on the edge of one driveway.

With most houses well back from the road, curved driveways seemed the norm, with many looking like a side street.

Birds were not plentiful but a nice variety were seen. A currawong, magpie, noisy miner and a crimson rosella.

No walkers were seen. The only human action observed were two residents mowing their lawns. Perhaps with large blocks, residents can get their exercise in-house, or rather in-garden.

I have observed on walks, which feature large blocks, old agricultural machinery is a feature of garden decorations. Most unusual was the rusty body of a Dodge Six car. The glass windscreen was intact and the tyres looked like they were still inflated. Other old machinery were in the same garden.

A windmill and a wheelbarrow were other rustic objects masquerading as garden ornaments.

I was greeted by several barking dogs as I walked the walk. One also greeted me on my return journey. That was the spaniel looking one, the other being a kelpie.

There were a few flowers convolvulas, plumbago and polygala making a nice trio.

Soft toys tied to trees or stuffed in mailboxes are becoming common. What I think looked like a puppy was protruding from a mailbox, while an owl was protected from the weather in a plastic bag.

A mailbox that appeared to be well beyond its use by date was tied to a street tree. A nice looking nesting box decorated another garden

There was frequent traffic along the road, including two young lads on mini-bikes, a fully grown motorcycle and a sports car.

A few houses had gates or just gate posts upon which lamps were installed.

A bower plant and a red geranium added a little colour. A grevillea was starting to colour up while a bird of paradise was anything but.

A contrast between two close properties was an old looking barn and a newly built cubby house.

There are no footpaths on Toppings Road but most of the way the grassy verge is quite navigable.

With many large street trees and hidden houses, it is almost like a walk in the country.
