The day the solstice occurs is the same right across the world. The season you welcome depends on the side of the equator you live on. The reason is a great science lesson. It is all about the tilt of the sun!


The duration of this day is 9 hours 32 minutes 32 seconds.

Solstices occur on 20th or 21st June and 21st or 22nd December each year. During the winter solstice, this will be the shortest day of the year.

The following is a list of some of the celebrations that will be on from 16th June to 23rd June 2019.

Welcome in the winter solstice in a twilight evening of yoga, dance and feasting by the fire.

Here you will honour the [i]"Goddess of Winter and Her transformative power of the dark."[/i] You will be settled into your own space with an opening meditation. This will be followed by a yoga practice. You will be taken through to create a snakalpa - an affirmation. This will be what you may have hidden within you that [i]"feels drawn to come to the light."[/i]

You will also learn through mythology, mudra and dance. This will be traditional Yoga Asana with free-embodied movement.

You will then have some vegetarian food and a sweetened chai.

The winter solstice celebrates the longest hours of darkness in the year and is believed to hold powerful energy for regeneration, renewal, and self-reflection. It may be winter, but the latest Pitch X is hotter than ever.

At this special winter wonderland, Pitch X organisers are on a mission to help connect, motivate, and grow startups.

Here there will be judges for this Pitch X friendly pitching competition. It is open to anyone who wants to pitch for an investor, mentor, co-founder, or just for practice.

The longest night of the year will be here! This gives birth to the pagan new year. At this event, you can play, party and dance. There will be great techno sounds brought to you by some amazing and local up and coming talent.

This event is brought to you by Ceres and ticket price includes live music, performances, craft activity, and ceremonial fire.

There will be delicious food, some mulled wine, chai and more - all available to buy.

This is one of their best-loved annual farm events - the Winter Solstice Bonfire!

Come and join the local community in celebrating this winter event. There will be food, performers, mulled wine and that terribly popular and massive bonfire.

The winter solstice gives you a chance to look within yourself and think about what you want and need. It's a time to set yourself some goals for the rest of the year. It is also a time to look at and let go of our past and to make changes within yourself.

This event will be these things plus a whole lot more! It is the perfect activity for anyone from the beginner to the experienced artist.

It will be all about mandalas and you will learn more at this mini-retreat. It will be an interesting three hours where you will decorate your own mandala. The workshop will then end with a Reiki healing while you sit back and enjoy meditation with sound healer and Reiki practitioner, Ashleigh Bell.

As is done all over the world for thousands of years, celebrate the start of the solar year of light and new beginnings.

Gather under a Tipi for an afternoon of grazing and entertainment. It will be three hours of free-flowing Prosecco / Mimosas and flower crown workshops.

TCF are opening their doors and inviting their bereaved families and the community to join in for an evening of music and readings, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows, mulled wine and rituals.

This will be a relaxed, simple get-together where you can share the warmth of the fire with friends, or make new friends.


The Compassionate Friends is an organisation which no one wants to belong to - it is for bereaved parents and siblings.
