Have kids in tow? But you still want to have a life and get out of the city for a day or two. These wineries have "got your back". There is plenty to do for you and the kids here. If you've had one of those days and you want to lose the kids for a while then Maxwell Wines is the go.

The Maze there will keep the kids running round in circles. Or should that be triangles? Or right angles? If you are still a Big Kid at Heart, then try it yourself, see if you can beat the kids to find your way out.

Enter at your own peril though. Took me ages. Hmm. Then have a glass of wine on the balcony to recover. If you are more the type that thinks your kids are "Little Treasures" then swing on by Fox Creek winery. Here your kids will get all the clues to go on a Treasure Hunt.

This will keep them entertained while you "sit back and smell the roses". Or perhaps a little taste of The Vixen. There are lovely safe garden areas for them to have a run around and just be kids. If it's nature and being "green" that your kids love then down McLaren Flat way you will find the lovely Gemtree cellar door.

All green, eco, love the planet type of people here. And great certified organic wines too for you Mum or Dad. Who's driving? Part proceeds of every bottle sale is donated to Greening Australia. Take the kids on the Wetlands walk and explore nature with them. A lot of passion and hard work has made this a haven for birds, frogs and animals. And a lovely peaceful place for a walk rain, hail or shine. If it is raining rug up, make sure the kids are waterproof and enjoy the season. And there is a cool playground right near the cellar door. Perhaps you and the kids are wanting to share a bit of love. Woodstock have cute and furry animals that will have the kids big and small squealing. There is nothing cuter to fall in love with than our world famous Aussie Kangaroos.One international visitor couldn't believe his luck to hand feed them.

Try to get there for the daily feeding at 11.30 am. Oooh so cute. Unique. Try some Little Miss Collett for something sweet. Friday nights is Wood Oven Pizza night, kids under 5 are free. Still got some day left? Are the kids arty? Well Bella Cosa has a Great Big Sculpture park with great big sculptures. Walk through the lovely dappled forest and enjoy the sculptures, or just the peace and quiet. Lots of room here for the kids to run off some steam.

If your little ones like to scribble on the walls then Beach Rd wines will save you. Let them loose on the big Chalk Wall and there won't be any tears here. There is a yummy range of ice creams to buy. Or try the wood oven pizzas. Just to keep you guessing though, Beach Road Wines are on Seaview Road. You might want to hit the GPS. Or do it the old fashioned way and pick up a map from the McLaren Vale Visitor Centre . OK it is not a Winery, but there is a cellar door. Think small, artisan, local, family run wineries. Meet the winemaker. Taste the wines.

Get local info on where to go and what to see. Pick up the local Winery Map to explore over 80 Cellar Doors. The kids can get outside and swing, climb, see-saw, squeal to their little hearts content. There is a fantastic big lawn area too and plenty of garden area to relax in. Cafe for that coffee fix.

Check out the Stump Hill Art gallery. Ask at the counter for the Bocce set and play a game on the lawns. Great place to come as an extended family. One of the best places to take my four little nieces and nephews while Mum and Dad are in "time out". Think 10, 8, 6 and 3 years old and all full of beans.

Phew, I am exhausted after all this fun. Think I need to go and have a glass of vino. Lucky there are plenty of wines to choose from at these kid friendly wineries.
