Everyone loves going to the market - well, almost everyone! For those of us who do love going to the local markets, it is an affordable way to pick up some cheap plants, look for gifts, buy some quirky second-hand items and buy a tasty bacon and egg roll to support local projects (and help recover from a late night!)
Around the Nelson Bay region, there is a market each weekend, so you can get your market-fix all year around. The first one on this list, Sacred Tree Markets, attracts some large crowds through summer, as they are in the most picturesque location in town...

Sacred Tree Markets are the most popular markets in Nelson Bay, as they are held right on the Nelson Bay Foreshore and attract both locals and tourists alike. The markets are held on various evenings throughout the year between 4pm - 9pm, with quality market stalls and a food truck area that will make your stomach rumble! Nelson Bay Legacy Markets are held at Neil Carroll Park near Fly Point, on the road between Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay, on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of every month, between 9am - 3pm. These popular, shady markets offer a wide range of locally made products and stalls to cater for all ages. See here for details.
Tomaree Markets are held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month at the Tomaree Sports Complex, less than 10 minutes from Nelson Bay town centre. These markets run between 8am - 2pm and sell a range of new and second-hand wares and cover two long aisles to walk up and down and explore. Shop for clothes, coins, toys, DVDs, homewares, plants, tools, handmade products, jams and much more. There is something for everyone at the Tomaree Markets!
Port Stephens Markets are held on the 4th Saturday of the month between 9am - 1pm in the car park of the Port Stephens Church of Christ, 25 minutes from Nelson Bay. This central, small market on Nelson Bay Road is a good market to stop off at if you are going to Newcastle for the day. See here for details.
Medowie Markets are held on the 2nd Saturday of the month between 8am - 12:30pm in the car park of the Bull 'N Bush Motel in Medowie, 30 minutes from Nelson Bay. These large markets have a great range of items to browse, with some stall holders from Nelson Bay also holding stalls at this friendly market. See here for details and here for a full article. Lions Tanilba Bay Markets are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month between 9am - 12pm at Kooindah Centre, over 30 minutes from Nelson Bay. See here for details.
