It's no secret that Perth summers are hot, sometimes even stinking hot. Luckily, there are plenty of places to cool down when the mercury rises. Cockburn, located 20 minutes south of Perth, has around 20 km of coastline for locals and visitors to enjoy if you love to head to the beach on a hot day, but it also boasts a heap of other activities to help beat the heat. Here are the top ways to cool down in Cockburn on a stinking hot day.

Cockburn Ice Arena
Cockburn Ice Arena in Bibra Lake is the coolest place in town. Perth's largest and newest ice-skating rink offers public skating sessions, lessons, birthday parties and ice hockey matches. You can hire skates at the venue and enjoy a bite to eat at the Frostbite Café or the on-site restaurant, Cabin 401. Entry fees start from $18 for adults and kids aged three and four are $12, while kids aged five to 17 will cost $18. Check the website for public skating session times.

Adventure World
A trip to Perth's premier theme park, Adventure World , is a truly awesome way to cool down. There are fantastic water slides and rides to enjoy, including Kraken , the longest, steepest and tallest funnel slide on the planet, swimming pools and one of 12 poolside Luxury Cabanas for hire, if you want to cool down in style. The park is open between September and April and entry fees start from $53 for adults and from $48 for kids.

Windsurfing and Kite Surfing at Woodman Point
Woodman Point in Coogee is considered one of the best places in Perth for kite surfers due to the consistent winds and calm and shallow waters, making it ideal for beginners. If you're a bit more experienced, head around to the Northern side of Woodman Point for some offshore winds.

Woodman Point is also a popular spot for windsurfing due to its favourable wind conditions. Either way, being out on the water is a glorious way to spend a hot Perth day.

Have a Swim at Coogee Beach Reserve
Scared of sharks invading your swimming spot? Coogee Beach Reserve is home to the state's one and only shark-proof barrier. During the summer months, the barrier contains a pontoon – perfect for sunbathing or jumping into the water. You can also snorkel around the area – you may be lucky enough to see a dolphin or even a sea lion.

Cockburn Splash Pad
This free interactive water feature in the heart of Cockburn Central has special interactive sprinklers, meaning a totally free and easy way to cool down. The Splash Pad is undercover and it's a great spot for kids (or adults) to escape the heat. There is Mooba coffee shop close by, as well as lots of other small little shops where you can stock up on cold drinks and snacks.
Address: Junction Boulevard, Cockburn Central

Water playground at Port Coogee
With a little man made beach and a cool water playground, Port Coogee has summers covered. There are undercover picnic and barbeque areas but the interactive water park is definetly the easiest way to cool off on a hot day.

Visit the Gate Bar and Bistro
The Gate Bar and Bistro has a great outdoor garden bar with shaded areas and best of all – a mist cooling system that sprays sporadic, refreshing droplets onto the patrons below. It's heaven on a hot day and just one of the reasons this Cockburn pub is so popular in summer.

Find somewhere with air con
Think Cockburn Gateways Shopping Centre , the local library (Cockburn has three), one of many pubs and restaurants around town, including the immensely popular Café Nocello , The Quarie Bar and Brasserie , Dome Café in Cockburn, or Port Coogee….anywhere you can enjoy the cool, yet artificial, breeze on your face.

Now you have no excuse to sweat away in the heat of summer. Visit Cockburn and enjoy these super cool activities and more.
