Have some fun in the sun, these school holidays
As summer approaches and locals and tourists flock to the bays and beaches around Nelson Bay, it may be surprising to know that there are even more water play options around the region. If you have kids, they will particularly love the options available - where they can jump on an inflatable obstacle course, splash in a water park or slide down a waterslide on a tube, as the sun sizzles over the bay.

These are the 3 most popular water play options around the Nelson Bay region for kids and adults to enjoy. If you have younger kids, please check the height and age requirements for each venue to ensure there isn't any disappointment when you arrive. This first one, in particular, is a "must-do" this summer for the kids. Parents, be warned, you're going to need your energy for this one - the sessions last for an hour!

1/ SPLASH Waterpark is a temporary inflatable water park that is set up at Little Nelson Bay every summer. This popular family activity has a wide range of inflatable obstacles to jump over, climb along, crawl through or bounce off. It is a family activity that everyone can do together.

The cost is $20 per person for a 1-hour session, with a minimum age of 6 years old. Please note that all children aged 6-9 years must be accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 years or older. If you would like to book a session time, you can do this online, however, please check the weather forecast and call prior to arriving, to ensure sessions haven't been cancelled due to strong winds. You then need to arrive 30 minutes early to fill in a SPLASH Waterpark waiver, be fitted with a lifejacket and listen to SPLASH Waterpark safety talk. See here for the full details.

2/ Oakvale Wildlife Park is located at Salt Ash and has a children's water play area that is open in the summer months, called Splash Bay. On particularly hot days, many families like to spend the morning looking around the wildlife park and then spend the afternoon cooling off under the jets at Splash Bay. Kids love to run through the jets, sit under the huge tipping bucket, weave through the sprays and have fun splashing with the other children.

Entry to Splash Bay is included in the cost of entry to the Wildlife Park, with prices starting from $17.50 for a child. This venue is ideal for toddlers and pre-schoolers, however, older kids will also enjoy it! See here for details. See here for a full article.

3/ Tomaree Aquatic Centre has a water slide that is open every weekend and school holidays, during the summer months. The water slide begins at the top of a high set of stairs and then you ride down the water slide sitting on a double inflatable tube - on your own or with a friend, depending on your height. Visitors need to pay for entry into the pool (with prices starting from $6 for a child over 3) and also pay for tickets to the water slide at the front entrance. At the time of writing, each ride costs $1.50 and there are height restrictions for riding the slide. See here for details and hours of operation and check their Facebook for updates.
