The weekend of Saturday 2nd June to Monday 4th June 2018 is a long weekend to celebrate Western Australia Day. There are many events on during this three day period and these seven will be held in and around the charming town of York. Not only is York quaint, and interesting, but it is easily "doable" in a day trip from Perth, being about 100 kms away.

1. FREEMASON (MASONIC) HALL ANTIQUE & COLLECTIBLE MARKETS
This antique market is held a few times a year and the next one will be on Saturday 2nd June, 2018. These markets will be open over the long weekend every day, from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. They will be held at the Masonic Hall in Joaquina Street, York.

If you are a collector or if you just like to look at antiques and the like (which I find fascinating!), then why not try this out of town market.

Generally, with the country markets, they will often have different things to discover from the city markets.

2. YORKIDS - A WINTER ADVENTURE
The long weekend in June will see York come alive with a new event called YORKids – A Winter Adventure. The event will run from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June, throughout the Town Centre.

There will be free activities including the following:

  • Junkadelic Brass Band
  • Spaced Out youth engagement

  • You will be able to see artwork up in lights at the light projection areas.

The event is made possible with the support of the Shire of York, Heathways and the Department of Local Government and Communities.

    3. AVONDALE DISCOVERY FARM - BEVERLEY
This agricultural service farm is situated at 550 Waterhatch Road, Beverley, and this is just 35 kms from the town of York. They will be open to the public from Saturday 2nd June to Monday 4th June, 2018 from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm each day.

This farm was formerly run by the Agricultural Department of W.A. and is now operated by the National Trust of WA. At Avondale, children can visit the 1850's homestead, the 1890's stables and the agricultural machinery museum.

They can also learn about crops and sustainable farming as you look around the extensive working farm. You can go on a family nature trail, on which you can find kangaroos, emus and a lot of wildflowers.

If you are not very mobile, there is a farm drive trail which takes in the same sights by vehicle.

There is also the following for the family to do here:
  • Large adventure playground with climbing tower
  • Big slides
  • High swings
  • Toddler and pre-schooler areas which include lots of low ride-on animals, kiddie swings, low climbing and small slide areas

  • 4. BEVERLEY TRACTOR PULLS AND LAWNMOWER RACING
This will be held on 2nd June at the Beverley Racecourse, Hammersley Road, and entry costs are:
    Adults $15
    Children: $5

The Western Australia Tractor Pull Association Inc, run this "tractor pull and dirt drag" event. This is a fun family day out in the country.

The day starts with the dirt drags, followed by the tractors. Dirt drag entries are from four-year-old children on "peewees" up to open adult bikes and quads.

This Racecourse has a large undercover grandstand and there will be hot food and a licensed bar.

    5. WA DAY CUP
This will be held on Monday 4th June, 2018 from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm. It will be held at the Northam Racecourse, Yilgarn Avenue.

The main race of the day will be the Northam Traders Sprint and entry is FREE.
