Romantic date ideas in the Capital
Are you looking for somewhere romantic to take your loved one, this Valentine's Day? Or perhaps you're looking for something a little more casual, so you can relax and have fun at the same time? There are a wide range of options around the Capital this Valentine's Day, for all interests, tastes and budgets. It can be hard to choose each year, however, if you think about places that you both enjoy going to - why not book a table at your favourite restaurant, buy tickets to your favourite movie, or take a picnic to your favourite location? As Valentine's Day this year falls on a Wednesday, with many people at work, it is a good idea to come up with an idea early, before it sneaks up on us and takes us by surprise!

1/ The Boat House is a scenic fine dining restaurant on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, at Grevillea Park. This restaurant guarantees a romantic evening with good wine, divine food and views over the sparkling water. They have a 6 course degustation Valentine's Day menu for $150 per person (food only) or a $410 for a Romance Package for two people, which includes the meal, a bottle of G.H.Mumm and a guaranteed window table. 2/ Water's Edge Restaurant is also located on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, however on the opposite side along Queen Elizabeth Terrace. As well as having one of the best views in Canberra, this fine dining restaurant has an extended wine list to complement the culinary style, ensuring beautifully crafted food and wine experience. This fine dining restaurant is a unique and picturesque venue to take your loved one for lunch or dinner. See here for details.
4/ American Express Openair Cinemas will be set up at Patrick White Lawns on Lake Burley Griffin, between 11th January and 25th February. On Valentine's Day they will be showing the romantic movie La La Land, with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Why not upgrade to a Star Lounge and watch the movie in style? See here for details.
5/ Shakespeare By The Lake will be performing Much Ado about Nothing at Tuggeranong Town Park - for free! Gates open at 5:30pm, music starts at 5:45pm and the performance starts at 6:30pm. Take a picnic blanket and buy delicious food and drink from Pop Inn wine bar, Canberra Bagel Van, ShotClock Expresso, Bombolini Doughnuts and the Cannoli Brothers. Although this event is free, you still need to book your ticket through Eventbrite. If you miss out, don't worry, as they have other performance dates at Tuggeranong, Glebe Park in the city and Queanbeyan River. See here for details.
6/ Cupid's Undie Run is a charity fun run on the Sunday after Valentine's Day, on the 18th February. Why not celebrate twice and get into your finest undies or fancy dress and run to raise money for Neurofibromatosis, which is a genetic disorder that causes tumours to form on nerve cells anywhere in the body - including the brain and spine. There is no cure and treatment options are limited. The short, 1.5 kilometre run begins at the Southern Cross Club and runs through Lennox Gardens, raising money for the Children's Tumour Foundation. 7/ Banana Leaf is a Sri Lankan restaurant in the heart of the city, which is offering a Valentine's Day four course set menu for $90 per person. See here for details.
8/ Hot Air Balloon rides are a popular way to celebrate Valentine's Day, followed by a champagne breakfast for two at the Hyatt Hotel. Book your flight with either Dawn Drifters or Balloons Aloft for a romantic Valentines Day to remember!
9/ GoBoat is Canberra's newest boat hire company on Lake Burley Griffin. If both you and your partner work in the city, why not book a boat for an hour in your lunch break and enjoy a romantic picnic for two out on the lake. See here for details.
