When a friend of mine recently asked me to join their Trivia Night group, I thought "Why not?" Trivia has never been one of my strong points, but when I went to the first night I was surprised by how many random pieces of information that had been lurking in the recesses of my brain for decades, just waiting for an opportunity to squeeze their way out. As well as making me feel surprisingly knowledgeable (well, on the first week anyway!), it was also a fun way to catch up with friends, have something to eat and possibly win some prizes. Around Canberra, it is particularly popular in winter as a way to be social, but to also go somewhere warm and have a cosy night in. The Trivia Nights listed below are the ones that I have found advertised, however, if you have a favourite not mentioned, please leave a comment at the bottom of this article. Where is your local?

Sunday Nights

The Meating Room gastropub in Weston Creek has a themed Trivia Night, hosted by IQ Trivia , every second Sunday at 6:30pm. Bookings are essential on 6288 6328. Whilst there, try out a range of beers on tap and something tasty off their menu. With a surprisingly large interior, it is the perfect place for trivia at the pub! Monday Nights

Ducks Nuts gastropub in Dickson have a free Trivia Night each Monday night at 6:30pm. Win great food and drink vouchers - with $100 cash as first prize. See here for details.

Tuesday Nights

Young and Frisky** pub in Gungahlin hold their Trivia Night every Tuesday night between 7pm - 9pm. This also coincides with their $15 Schnitty and Middy deal, which makes it a cheap night out! See here for details and here for their website.

The Hellenic Club in Woden hold their Trivia Nights for members and their guests on Tuesday nights at 7pm in the Triton Lounge. Use wireless buzzers to win great prizes or spin the wheel! See here for details.

Wednesday Nights

The Duxton gastropub in O'Connor holds their Trivia Night each Wednesday in the Oak Room, with the doors opening at 6pm and trivia starting at 7:30pm. Choose dinner from their full menu and enjoy the challenge of winning for your team. See here for details.

Thursday Nights

The RUC lawn bowls club in Turner holds a free Trivia Night each Thursday night at 7pm, for members and their guests. The trivia is a cross between Sale of the Century and Millionaire Hot Seat, as each team has their own keypad and buzzer. See here for details.

King O'Malley's Irish pub in the Civic has a Trivia Night each Thursday night at 7pm, run by QuizXpress. It is free to play, with $12 pizzas on the night! See here for details.

The Boardwalk Bar & Nightclub in Belconnen will be hosting Trivia Nights every second Thursday starting at 6:30pm, run by IQ Trivia . Happy Hour will also be run between 5pm - 7pm, with $5 drinks. Second last place gets a jug of Sangria! See here for details.
