The Pinnacles is one of Western Australia's iconic tourist sites. They are situated in Nambung National Park, and the Pinnacles is a must for any tourist or local.

The Pinnacles had approximately 653,000 visitors recorded by Parks and Wildlife during the 2017/2018 financial year. This makes it one of the most visited places in the whole of Western Australia.

The Pinnacles of Nambung National Park are a major natural attraction in the Coral Coast region. They are in between Cervantes and Jurien Bay. The park is approximately 200 kilometres north of Perth and covers an area of 17,487 hectares. It houses an extensive amount of native animals and bird life.

The Pinnacles consist of enormous standing stones which are made of limestone. These can be up to 3.5m high and are amongst the quiet sand dunes in the Nambung Park. The standing stones were formed from solidifying sand dunes over thousands of years. Early sailors actually mistook them for the ruins of an ancient city.

Nearby at the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre, you can take a journey through the formation of the Pinnacles and the surrounding National Park with displays, soundscapes, videos, and objects.

The changing shadows of dawn or dusk can make for some very impressive, eerie, and unique photo opportunities.

* Pinnacles Sunset and Stargazing Tour
This is an afternoon tour departure at one of their five pick up points across the city. You will then head north towards Yanchep National Park where you will stop to see some of the local wildlife.

Then it is on up the coast towards the Nambung National Park. You will arrive in the late afternoon and thus avoid the crowds while you take in the breathtaking west-coast sunset. The Pinnacles formation come to life as the setting sun gives out a colour display over the sky and it turns to night.

Once it is dark, you will head to the spot where you will have dinner in the fishing town of Cervantes.

You will then go back to the Pinnacles Desert observation deck, where you will experience the amazing night sky. There is no pollution here and the stars are immeasurable, and the clarity unsurpassed. You will see as many constellations as you can find and spot the iconic Aussie symbol The Southern Cross. This tour is not a professional astronomy based tour, however, is a relaxed sightseeing one.

Once you have seen enough of the amazing night sky you will head back to Perth.

There are many more tour operators that go to this wonderful destination, and I have picked out those that seem good value. I have actually done the last one listed and really enjoyed it though it was marred by a very cloudy sky!
