As one of Victoria's highway towns, Kaniva offers much more than just a rest stop for weary travellers. There's quite a number of things to see and do while you're in town.

First and foremost, you got to check out the silos near Band Park Playground on Progress Street. They were painted by artists David Lee Pereira and Jason Parker as a tribute to the nearby Little Desert National Park. The artwork features a slender and long-winged Australian Hobby bird together with two species of sun orchids.

From there, take a walk along the sheep art trail to the wetlands. The trail comprises over forty painted sheep, each with a name, story and QR code attached. Local artist Sharon Merrett established the idea as a way of celebrating the town's sheep history.

Look closely and you'll find tiny windmills on all the sheep. But, if you're not that observant, don't worry, there's a Big Windmill along the main street which you won't be able to miss.

Lastly, the wetlands is a popular picnic spot just west of the town centre. It has free BBQ facilities as well as a playground and various walking tracks. Great for a wander especially after a long drive.

So, next time you're in the region, be sure to not only stop at Kaniva but also stay a little longer and enjoy all that the township has to offer.
