Get social in Medowie
Medowie is an inland town that is located in Port Stephens, 35 minutes from Newcastle and 30 minutes from Nelson Bay. It is a central location for people to live as it is close to the city and the RAAF base at Williamtown, just 5 minutes away. Although the base isn't in Medowie itself, one thing that you can do in the area is look up into the sky and watch the RAAF fighter jets twist and turn in the sky (you will often hear them, before you see them!)
This small town is one of the fastest-growing regions in the area, with new estates being built and two large supermarkets getting built in town. It has a rural feel with a small town centre (at the time of writing!), but progress is coming. Keep reading for 3 things you can do in Medowie, if you plan on moving there or just driving through.
Stop for lunch at Medowie Social! Image: Medowie Social Facebook
1/ Medowie Social is the newest place in town and the most popular! This venue lives up to its name, with social groups of people enjoying lunch and dinner together inside and outside, overlooking the lawn bowl greens and playground. My family visited this venue for the first time last year and devoured some tasty chicken burgers, while our daughter enjoyed some kids bolognaise. The food was exceptional, the beers were cold and the playground was enjoyed by all the kids. Our family can't wait to go back! See here for details.
2/ Pacific Dunes Golf Club is another popular venue in Medowie, for golf enthusiasts to play 18 holes of golf and enjoy a beer afterwards. This stunning golf course opened in 2005 and it is in the middle of a beautiful housing estate, with koalas in the trees and kangaroos on the lawns. If you plan on staying in the area to play golf, then why not purchase a Port Stephens 3 Play Pass, which includes 18 holes of golf at Newcastle, Nelson Bay and Pacific Dunes for $189 (at the time of writing). See here for details.
3/ Medowie Macadamias has been a favourite cafe in the area for years, with a beautiful outdoor area to sit at and enjoy the view of the macadamia farm, just a few metres away. Enjoy a pot of tea with scones, jam and cream as you watch your children in the playground and listen to the RAAF jets roar overhead. When you leave, don't forget to buy a bag of honey macadamias from the shop - you may want to buy more than one! See here for details. For a full article on Medowie Macadamias, see here.
Why don't you go for a drive and check out Medowie for yourself, this weekend?
Enjoy scones and tea, while the kids have a play...
...and have a run on the grass
